Jimmy Kimmel apologized and removed a video after broadcasting a misleading clip on his show, claiming that Vice President Pence was delivering empty boxes of personal protective equipment for a performance in a hospital.
During his monologue in the episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“Here he is without a mask, drives boxes of PPE to a health center and does his best to lift them, what a hero … because it went so well, and also because he didn’t realize he had a microphone beyond, Magic Mike decided to keep it up, listen carefully, “Kimmel said during the monologue.

Kimmel tweeted this barbed apology after noticing that the edited clip was misleading and that Pence was joking about the empty boxes
The video, originally broadcast by C-SPAN, showed Pence pushing a cart with large cardboard boxes, picking them up and putting them in front of the hospital doors.
Then, when Pence returns to the van that still contains boxes, someone says to him, “They’re empty, sir. We are ready to go. ‘
Pence replies, “Well, can I wear the blank? Just for the camera? ‘
“Absolutely,” says the unknown man, while the people around them laugh.
Kimmel continued his monologue, saying that ‘Mike Pence pretending to take empty PPE to a hospital is the perfect metaphor for who he is and what he does. A large box with nothing that again yields a box with nothing. ‘
The clip showed Pence (pictured) when he delivered boxes of personal protective equipment to a Virginia hospital. Pence later joked about delivering empty boxes for a photo surgery, which he didn’t actually do
Kimmel’s handle for TV shows tweeted the monologue clip, which quickly went viral
The monologue was subsequently performed by the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Twitter account, along with the statement, “A big box of nothing that yields another box of nothing …” The tweet also tagged Pence’s personal Twitter handle.
After the monologue aired – and quickly went viral on social media – it was pointed out that Pence’s statements and the clip itself were taken out of context.
BuzzFeed News reported that the full C-SPAN clip showed that after replacing the empty box, Pence actually closed the truck’s loading doors – without taking one of the empty boxes everywhere.
On Friday afternoon, the original Kimmel Live! tweet was removed, and Kimmel took to his personal Twitter with some sort of barbed apology.
“Looks like @vp joked about carrying empty boxes for a staged publicity stunt,” tweeted Kimmel, using Pence’s official Twitter handle.
The full video shows that he was carrying full boxes for a staged publicity stunt. My apologies. I know how expensive this administration values the truth. ‘
Kimmel’s tweet included one of Friday morning’s viral tweets, posted by a poll, who had written, “Mike Pence caught hot microphone delivering empty boxes of PPE for a PR stunt.”
Neither Kimmel’s network nor Pence’s team has yet responded to the incident.
