Jim Carrey’s older sister Rita has died, her husband confirmed in a shocking Facebook post on Friday.

Her partner Alex’s post read: “It is with great sadness and my deepest sadness, surrounded by her family and friends, Rita passed away peacefully and quietly on November 14, 2024.

‘Rita and I have been together for 16 years and got married last year in July in an outdoor wedding that she had always wanted.

‘Rita always had a loving soul and wanted to help everyone, even complete strangers. As everyone knows, Christmas was Rita’s favorite holiday, it was actually every day for her and she started a fundraiser to help a local charity.

It added that “both family and friends are invited to attend a candlelight vigil in memory of Rita on December 7, 2024 at Heathcote Terrace in St. Catharines.”

‘Following the vigil, everyone is encouraged to attend the Christmas on the Terrace public event in support of Gillian’s Place. Donations in Rita’s memory can be made directly to Gillian’s Place or at the event. Non-perishable food items, children’s clothing, toiletries or unwrapped children’s items. Gifts are encouraged.

“It’s been a wonderful, crazy journey with Rita.”

‘Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend. Until we meet again. “You really had the time of your life.”

“Your best friend and husband, Alex.”

Rita was one of four children; actor Jim, 62, was the youngest.

She worked as a radio host and public speaker.

In 2005, Rita suffered the tragic loss of her 25-year-old son Marty Fournier in a car accident.

She chronicled her grief in the book Growing Up Carrey, which celebrated her son’s life and his upbringing with his famous brother.

She wrote: ‘When I think back, I didn’t realize that we were actually homeless. I just thought we were camping. My parents made it a good time. “That was life.” The book may come out next spring.
