Jim Carrey has candidly revealed the reason he took on a role in the new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, after previously announcing his retirement.
The actor, 62, said in 2022 that he would not make any more films, claiming that Sonic 2 was his final project.
But in February this year it was revealed that the star, believed to be worth £160million, would return for the third film, also starring Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves and Colleen O’Shaughnessey.
Speaking on the red carpet last night, an Associated Press interviewer said to him: ‘Did you say in a previous interview that you would come back if you received a script written in gold ink written by angels…?’
When he started laughing, he responded by saying: ‘That could have been hyperbole, yes. I came back to this universe because I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch.
“And you know, I bought a lot of things and, frankly, I need the money.”

In May of this year, Jim lowered the price of his Los Angeles property for the third time since listing the property for sale more than a year earlier.
The comedian has lived in the 12,700-square-foot home for more than 30 years and first put his home on the market with an asking price of a whopping $28.9 million in February 2023.
Two months after listing the property, he reduced the price to $27 million, and in October 2023, he reduced that figure to $24 million.
And in May 2024, the Truman Show actor dropped the price to $21.9 million, bringing the total discount to $7 million.
Despite the huge price cut, he bought the house three decades ago for $3.8 million and will still take home a sizable profit.
He bought the luxurious estate, which features a tennis court and infrared sauna, in 1994.
When he first put his house on the market in February, he said The New York Post that he was ready for “changes” in his life.
“For three decades it has been a sanctuary for me, but now I don’t spend much time there and I want someone else to enjoy it like I do,” he told the outlet in a statement.
‘Cha cha cha cha… Changes!’ he added while referencing the iconic David Bowie song.
The star is known for his roles in The Mask (seen), The Grinch and Dumb and Dumber.
He also previously told The Wall Street Journal that the house was “a place of charm and inspiration” for him for more than “30 very creative and prosperous years.”
“Every night the owls sang lullabies to me and every morning I had my cup of coffee with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant pine tree,” he said.
The one-story townhouse is located in the exclusive Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles and features five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and three half-bathrooms.
The Mask alum also enjoyed playing on the tennis court, swimming in the waterfall pool and meditating on an outdoor treetop platform on the spacious property, which covers more than two acres.
