“There are two kinds of couples in this world: those who order the same dish in a restaurant and they would never dare,” wrote reporter Jessica Sidman on Twitter.
“I would certainly give my husband an angry look if he ordered the same thing as me, because of course we have to try as much of the menu as possible.”
Her tweet quickly went viral and sparked a heated argument over whether it’s acceptable to ask the same thing as your partner.
“Seriously, the whole point is to try more things,” one person agreed, while a second user added, “If everyone ate the same thing, you could only have made one meal at home.”
“Who would order the same thing?” joked someone else. “If you order differently, you can try them both.”
However, some people said that similar dishes are a sign of a “healthy marriage” and perhaps the “secret to long-term compatibility.”
“I don’t like people eating off my plate, or me eating off theirs. In fact, I think it’s ghetto and cheap to eat off someone else’s order, partner or not,” said one user.

When asked about his own preference in this area, he admitted that he and his wife don’t usually get the same thing, but that doesn’t mean he’s totally against it.
“I’m the man who orders the offal while she gets the salmon,” he explained. “But maybe we’d get the same thing if we both wanted it.”
