A fire has broken out in the kitchen of a popular Jewish delicatessen in North Bondi which NSW Police are treating as suspicious after detectives were seen removing a drum from the premises.
Emergency services were called to Curlewis Street, North Bondi, following reports of a fire at Lewis’s Continental Deli after 4am on Sunday morning.
“Officers attached to the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command responded and found a well-lit business, located on the ground floor of the building,” reads a police statement.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has any information.

NSW Fire and Rescue crews attended and extinguished the fire.
Residents were evacuated from the building. No injuries were reported.

Police will hold a press conference on Sunday afternoon and appeal for information following a suspicious fire and ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who has information or images to contact Eastern Suburbs Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. .
The fire comes several months after a fire broke out in the unit above the deli which caught fire after an electric bike battery spontaneously burst into flames while four tenants were sleeping.
