Jetstar is resuming flights between Australia and Bali after conditions improved from a volcanic eruption.

Six Jetstar return flights will fly to Denpasar from across Australia on Thursday, consisting of four scheduled services and two ad hoc recovery flights.

“Our teams have been working through the night to closely monitor the evolving situation and assess when it is safe to fly,” the airline said in a statement.

“We will continue to monitor changing conditions and volcanic activity and work on plans to operate more recovery flights.”

The emergency began on Sunday when the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano erupted, spewing a column of ash 9 kilometers high.

The event in East Nusa Tenggara province, about 500 kilometers from Bali, killed nine people and caused the evacuation of more than 15,000 people near the crater.

Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia have canceled several flights due to safety concerns.
