Jetstar announces the temporary cancellation of flights between Darwin airport and Bali due to construction works

  • Jetstar suspends flights due to runway works
  • Flights from October 9 to 28 canceled

The budget airline Jetstar has announced the temporary suspension of flights between the Australian capital and a major holiday destination.

Jetstar confirmed that flights between Darwin International Airport and Bali would be canceled between October 9 and 28 due to construction work on the northern capital’s airport runways.

The airline confirmed that it had stopped taking reservations for flights between the two airports while it awaited “confirmation that the planned works would continue.”

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, Jetstar acknowledged that the cancellation would be “disappointing and frustrating… and we thank you for your understanding.”

The Jetstar statement revealed that the order to cancel the flights was due to the plans of the Department of Defense.

“Darwin airport runway works will continue into October and will affect our flights between Darwin and Bali,” the statement read.

“As a result, we can confirm that Jetstar will temporarily stop operating flights between Darwin and Denpasar from Monday, October 9 to Saturday, October 28, 2023.”

The airline is actively contacting customers with flights booked during the three-week period to “discuss their options” for compensation.

Compensation plans include indirect flights through another port, travel credit or a full refund of customers’ ‘original form of payment’.

“We hope to resume our flights from Darwin to Denpasar from Sunday 29 October 2023.”

Flights to Bali from other airports will continue to operate as planned as Darwin is the only airport affected.
