Jetstar announces big changes for Australian customers: Here’s what you need to know to make sure you don’t miss your next flight

  • Jetstar is announcing several changes to flights
  • Check-in, baggage drop-off and boarding times change

Aussies traveling on Jetstar will need to arrive at the airport earlier as the budget carrier announces major changes to improve punctuality.

In an email to customers, the airline said check-in times, baggage drop-off times and gate closing times will be changed from May 23.

For domestic flights, check-in and baggage drop-off close 40 minutes before departure, starting 30 minutes earlier.

Check-in for international flights and baggage drop-off now close 60 minutes before a flight, which is 15 minutes earlier than last time.

Jetstar boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure for all flights – five minutes earlier.

“In order to improve our performance, we are also recruiting more airport staff, cabin crew and technical team members and making changes to our check-in, baggage drop-off and boarding times, to bring them in line with other low-cost carriers around the world.

“Everyone at the airline is committed to getting Jetstar at its best while delivering the lowest fares possible, so our customers can fly to more places more often.”

It comes after Jetstar celebrated its 19th anniversary with free round-trip travel on select domestic and international flights.

“Whether you’re 19 or 91, the airline wants Aussies to ‘feel 19 again’ by booking on any of its 59 domestic and 28 international routes,” said a Jetstar spokesperson.

The sale included domestic routes such as Sydney to Melbourne.

Other routes included in the sale are Melbourne to Hobart and Perth to Adelaide.

Some international sales, to places like Bali and Thailand, were also included in the sale.

Jetstar Group CEO, Stephanie Tully, said the airline’s free return sales were incredibly popular.

“From day one, Jetstar has been offering great low fares so Australians can fly more often. On our 19th anniversary, we are as excited and passionate as ever to make travel affordable for more people,” she said.
