Jets DE Haason Reddick expected to hold out of training camp as he seeks new deal

Haason Reddick will not be present when the New York Jets open training camp on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The 29-year-old defensive end has not received the extension he sought since being traded by the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1. He has one year remaining on his contract and did not attend any events during the Jets’ offseason.

“He’s in a really good place mentally, working really hard as we know,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said. He said last month during the team’s minicamp. “But he’s chosen not to play this game without excuses… The kid’s a great guy. He’s been to a number of places and played at a high level at a number of places. He’s a professional, a seasoned veteran and the last guy I’m worried about whether or not he’s going to be ready to play football. He knows what he needs to do to get ready.”

Under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, Reddick will be subject to a daily fine of $50,000 during his absence.

Reddick, who is scheduled to act $14.25 million This season, he was traded from the Eagles to the Jets for a conditional third-round pick in the 2026 draft that would convert to a second-round pick if he plays 67.5% of New York’s defensive snaps or records 10 or more sacks in 2024.

Despite offseason reports, Reddick said in February that he never requested a trade from the Eagles while seeking a new contract.

Reddick, a two-time Pro Bowler and 2022 second-team All-Pro, has finished with at least 11 sacks in each of the past four seasons. The Jets are his fourth team since he entered the league in 2017 with the Arizona Cardinals.
