‘It can totally swallow us up’: Pregnant Jessie J shares heartfelt message about dealing with grief after previously suffering a devastating miscarriage

Jessie J has shared a heartfelt message about dealing with grief, saying it’s something that can “whole us up.”

The 35-year-old singer, who is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman, suffered a miscarriage earlier in November 2021.

The hitmaker shared a video of her singing her song Flashlight, describing grief as something “dark and lonely.”

Alongside the video, she wrote, “Grief is honestly a ****y, weird and very personal journey. It can come up and swallow us all up when we least expect it.

“It’s not something you can prepare or practice for. It’s something so many of us have in common, but have to navigate so uniquely and so often go unspoken.

“Just something that lives under the surface or in a cloud in our minds. It can be so consuming and dark and lonely. I embrace you.’

The Price Tag singer recently revealed she’s expecting a baby boy and has filmed an upcoming documentary that will chronicle her return to music when she becomes a mother.

Jessie revealed she was pregnant just 13 months after she suffered her miscarriage and then admitted her mind “hasn’t fully processed” the happy news.

In November, Jessie reflected on her miscarriage in a heartfelt post to mark one year since she lost her baby.

She wrote, “Grief is such a weird and personal journey.”

Against a solid black background, she began the post by saying, “One year ago today I was told my baby had no heartbeat.”

She continued, “While I can now tell the story without crying, I still have and discover all the positives the experience has given me.”

The UK-born singer went on to list “strength, wisdom, empathy and gratitude” before adding: “It still hurts and all day I’ve just thought about all the women and men and families who have gone through this countless times experienced and how incredibly strong they are.’

The singer became pregnant with her first child last year after trying to have a baby ‘on her own’.

“Time helps, but it never really fades,” she commented of the difficult experience.

“Sending love and strength to everyone’s heart who has or is experiencing this right now,” she wrote in the post.

At the end, she spoke directly to her child as she said, “And to my little angel. I feel you everywhere. Especially today.’
