Jess Glynne has opened up about the “struggle” to make new music during her five-year hiatus as she returns to the industry with her third studio album JESS.

The pop singer, 34, proudly admitted she is now living her “true authentic self” following a spiritual and professional rebirth in recent years.

Before disappearing for a while, Jess released her second album Always In Between in 2018, and previously rose to stardom with her first album I Cry When I Laugh.

She quickly became a household name in the pop industry as her first album included global hits such as Rather Be feat. Clean Bandit, take my hand and take me home.

After 2018, she continued to release some singles and collaborations, but now the star admitted she was “struggling” to create new music and was feeling “uninspired.”

Joining presenter Clara Amfo for a candid interview on the first episode of new ITV show Studio Sessions, Jess said: “I just needed to have a moment outside of this.

‘Let me cook, let me walk. Let me make my house my home.’

The hitmaker admitted that being closer to her family and friends was a healing experience and it didn’t take long for her to “feel inspired again” and in August 2020 she finally “felt ready to make music again.”

“I’m living my true authentic self now,” Jess, who is in a relationship with former footballer turned TV star Alex Scott, confidently added.

The Hampsted-born performer made it clear: she’s back in music and stronger than ever, admitting there’s still “a lot to come” with her new album JESS, including a tour.

“I’m very excited about this album,” she said.

The Friend Of Mine singer also shared an important lesson she’s learned throughout her personal and professional journey about navigating audience expectations and her role in music.

‘The truth is that you can’t be smiling and happy all the time. It’s just not normal. We are not perfect.’

During the lengthy interview, Jess also gave fans a deeper look into what her childhood and adolescence were like.

Explaining that he spent his teenage years in north London, he said: ‘My parents always had music in the house.

“I was more fine with my headphones, in my own space.”

When asked where she sees herself in the next 10 years music-wise, she simply replied, “I have to take it day by day.”

Before her chat with Clara, Jess performed an intimate set in the O2 Blueroom at the O2 Arena.

Accompanied on stage by two backup singers, two guitarists and a drummer, Jess wowed the audience with her amazing vocal abilities, singing hits such as her latest single You Make It Easy.

It comes after Jess was surprised with an award for achieving 1 billion UK streams from her proud parents during a private listening party.
