He added: ‘I stepped away’ [from Jersey Shore] to deal with my mental health, to be a father to my child, to be a betrothed to my wife. I’ll be back and, you know, all the fans love me and I love them too, so I’m going to give them what they want and I’ll see them soon.”

Ortiz-Magro has also kept in touch with the show’s producers while on leave, and he hopes to return to the show by the end of Season 5. Jersey Shore: Family Vacation returned for its fourth season in June.

Ortiz-Magro announced his intention to take a break a month earlier.

“After speaking with the team at MTV, we mutually agree that I will leave the show while I seek medical treatment for mental health issues that I have ignored for too long,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

The Season 4 finale is scheduled for Thursday, September 2.

During his spare time, the star got engaged to his girlfriend, Saffire Matos. An insider told PEOPLE that the couple had a private picnic before asking the question.

The Bronx native also has a daughter, Ariana, with his ex-girlfriend Jen Harley. The couple broke up weeks after the baby was born. The two then began an on-again, off-again relationship until the Jersey Shore veteran was arrested on domestic violence charges after an altercation with Harley.

Despite parting with Harley, Ortiz-Magro faced similar allegations of domestic violence in April this year. The star avoided felony charges because police lacked sufficient evidence, sources said TMZ.

Matos called the police on her then-boyfriend after he got physical with her after an argument. He was on probation at the time for the domestic violence incident with his ex.

Despite her call to the police, Ortiz-Magro’s fiancée posted on her social media at the time, saying that the facts of the incident were being distorted.

“Ronnie and I are doing well, there is a lot of misleading information circulating,” she said. “I appreciate it with all my heart, but anything portrayed there is not fact.

“I don’t think it’s fair that people use false accusations to get attention. Please leave Ron and me alone. You don’t know what someone is going through at the end of the day. Don’t believe everything you hear or read online.’
