Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has lifted the lid on his rather interesting culinary choices.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette raised eyebrows when he revealed he would be tucking into raccoon instead of the traditional turkey for Thanksgiving.
However, it appears that raccoon – and another unconventional meat – is a regular part of household menus across the league. At least that’s according to Jones.
The NFL team owner not only admitted that he had tasted raccoon before when asked about Legette’s Thanksgiving appetite, but also revealed that another rodent was his favorite.
“I ate a lot of raccoon,” Jones told radio program 105.3 The FAN, via Jon Machota. ‘The answer is yes. …It’s not unusual at all. One of my favorites is squirrel. It’s great. We all had our favorite pieces. … My mother and I even asked for the squirrel’s brain. Delicious. Serious.’
Some Dallas fans may feel that Jones’ admission helps explain the Cowboys’ crazy season.

Sunday’s 30-14 victory over Legette’s Panthers was a rare highlight amid a dismal season for Dallas.
The Cowboys have fallen to a 6-8 record and sit third in the NFC East, and while they escaped the weekend with their playoff chances still technically alive, they are slim to say the least.
The woes in the Lone Star State have increased pressure on head coach Mike McCarthy and the team’s billionaire owner.
But Jones has been staunchly supportive of the coach all season, and last month it was suggested that McCarthy has lost the dressing room ‘so over the top’.
He once again left the door open for McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmerman to return Tuesday.
“I give them both high marks this year,” Jones said during the radio appearance.
