On January 1, 2023, Renner’s home near Reno experienced a snowstorm and he and his nephew Alex Fries set out to remove the snow.

His nephew was loosening the chain that attached the car to the plow, but Renner couldn’t see him and began to worry for his safety.

He became concerned that the plow would roll toward Alex and, in an effort to get back to the plow to set the emergency brake, he was run over.

Renner was motionless and in critical condition while his nephew and neighbors stayed with him until paramedics arrived.
