Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he was “days away from dying” before recently undergoing urgent heart surgery.
The former Top Gear presenter, 64, had to undergo the procedure after a “sudden deterioration” in his health, with the star admitting: “Wow, it was a close call.”
He began to feel unwell after swimming in the Indian Ocean while on holiday on a “small island” and then found it difficult to climb a flight of stairs.
Clarkson returned to Britain and a “sudden deterioration began to accelerate”, feeling “damp”, “tightness in his chest” and “tingling in his left arm”.
After sharing the news on your Sunday schedule column on Sunday, Clarson shared an additional update on his health.

Clarkson wrote in his column in Sunday weather how he felt “almost dead” after returning to the beach after a brief swim.
He spent the rest of his break on a tropical island eating cheese and drinking wine.
It was only when he returned to Britain and was loading 30 pigs onto a “slaughterhouse school bus” that he noticed tingling sensations in his left arm.
He then went by ambulance to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, where a heart attack was ruled out after an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and x-rays.
He said he then went into an “operating room” on Wednesday, after more checks, and doctors said he was perhaps “days” from death.
Once there, a stent was placed to keep his arteries open, improve blood flow to the heart and relieve chest pain.
A stent is a wire mesh tube that keeps your arteries open. To open the narrowed artery, the surgeon may perform what is known as angioplasty.
This implies making a small incision in a patient’s arm or leg, through which a wire with a deflated balloon attached is passed to the coronary arteries
Describing what he called the “draining effects of aging,” Clarkson said, “It seems that of the arteries that feed my heart with nutritious blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was headed in that direction.”

The motoring journalist said: ‘It wasn’t particularly painful. Just strange,’ adding that he had been thinking: ‘Wow, that was close.’
Clarkson concluded by saying that she was “wondering what water tastes like and whether it’s possible to make celery interesting” after the health scare, as she appeared to be considering reducing her meat consumption.

He recently opened a pub, called The Farmer’s Dog, in Asthall, near Burford, close to where he lives near Chipping Norton.
