Jeremy Clarkson nearly killed by caravan in final adventure on The Grand Tour

As he navigated a tight corner in Scotland, Jeremy Clarkson thought he might have seen his last day when the caravan he’d towed started overtaking him.

Jeremy’s near-death experience took place in Amazon Prime’s latest adventure The Grand Tour, with the comedy trio traveling to Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides.

Jeremy, 61, and his co-star James May, 58, shared: The sun they thought the caravan-hating car enthusiast might die as a result of their antics watching the trailer hitch connecting his caravan to the car loosen.

James said, “For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge. I thought, ‘We finally got shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan.”

Jeremy added: “There was a moment, when it started to catch up with me, when I thought, ‘God, I’m having the worst accident of my life.’

“Then I thought, ‘No, wait, I’m still in control’. And then: “The caravan is off”, and the whole towbar had come loose.

‘That really happened. I thought James’ lungs would come out, he was laughing so hard.’

Their words come after fans got their first glimpse of The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown on Thursday, in which the stars of the show wreak havoc in Scotland.

In addition to Jeremy’s terrifying experience, the show follows Jeremy, Richard Hammond, 51, and James as they attempt to cross a plastic bridge in the middle of a lake in 1970s American cars they saw on TV shows when they were young.

Along the way, the trio will drive through the streets of Edinburgh, enjoy a hilarious showdown with driver Abbie Eaton at the track, as well as stage an epic Cold War shootout between the worst Soviet and American cars ever made.

James, Jeremy and Richard take to the roads of Scotland in a Cadillac Coupe De Ville as driven by Elvis, a Lincoln Continental as driven by Jock Ewing of Dallas, and a Buick Riviera driven by Clint Eastwood.

The co-hosts will also use classic muscle cars to put an infamous Pizza Express journey to the test, taking them to the Outer Hebrides for one of their toughest challenges yet.

They are also tasked with building a homemade floating bridge across the Hebrides Sea, which can support them and their huge cars on a perilous journey to their final destination.

Jeremy previously admitted that they had encountered some familiar faces during their travels in Scotland.

He said: ‘With Scotland, we knew we couldn’t go abroad, so we took a look and thought, ‘Well, the Outer Hebrides then’.

And when we got there, we ran into ‘A League of Their Own’ producer Joanna Lumley, Bob Mortimer, Paul Whitehouse, every TV show you could think of that would normally be somewhere else in the world was suddenly in the Outer Hebrides.’
