Nearly five decades later, Jennifer Nettles plays the ‘primary role’ in the upcoming revival trilogy of the 1973 cult classic The Exorcist
Jennifer Nettles will play a key role in the new remake of The Exorcist, the first film of which will be released later this year.
The 48-year-old Sugarland singer joins the cast to play an unknown but “primary role” in the upcoming trilogy – continuing as a sequel to the 1973 classic horror film The Exorcist.
The country star will star alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett and Ellen Burstyn – who will reprise her role as the mother of the young girl who becomes possessed in the original film.
Her role has not yet been revealed, but she will reportedly be a major part of the sequel.
The Righteous Gemstones actress is best known for her music as part of the country duo Sugarland and Broadway appearances in the critically acclaimed plays Waitress and Chicago.

The upcoming film will be released in theaters later this year on October 13.
Production and release dates for the second and third films in the trilogy have not yet been announced.
The original film, according to the synopsis, tells the story of a 12-year-old girl named Regan who begins to exhibit bizarre behavior after playing with a Ouija board.
Her mother Chris then consults two priests who suspect Regan is possessed by a demonic entity and then performs an exorcism.
Since its release, the 1973 original has grossed $441 million to date.
The upcoming film will be directed by David Gordon Green, who previously revived the films in the Halloween franchise.
In an interview with ColliderGreen revealed that the plan is to tell the story according to the original.
He revealed that Leslie Odom Jr. this time the parent of a possessed child will play.
“Desperate for help,[his character]tracks down Burstyn’s character, whose young daughter was possessed by an evil entity known as Pazuzu in the first film,” he said.
