Jennifer Hudson channels the 50s chic while filming scenes for Aretha Franklin biopic Respect with Costar Forest Whitaker
Jennifer Hudson has big shoes to fill while she takes on the role of Queen of the Soul, Aretha Franklin, in a new biopic about the star.
But one thing is certain, the actress certainly looked at the role when she was filming scenes for the film entitled Respect on Friday.
The 38-year-old star was accompanied by Forest Whitaker, who is Aretha’s father C.L. Franklin plays while the actors walked through Washington Square Park in New York.

Double duty: Later on the film day, Whitaker and Hudson returned in different costumes to record a different scene for the highly anticipated film
Hudson is depicted in a moss-green jacket with fur collar along with an olive-green pill box and matching kitten heels, gloves and a small bag.
The duo walked bundled together against the cold.
Whitaker, 58, wore a long jacket, smart blue pants, and a fedora.
Later on the shooting day, Whitaker and Hudson returned in a new set of costumes.
Hudson put on a purple coat, similar in style to her previous costume, while her hair was transformed into a stylish bouffant.

Iconic: the film follows the rise of Franklin’s career from the beginning when she sang in her father’s church choir
She’s the one: Franklin chose Hudson for the role before she died in August 2018
The singer and actress completely transforms into the Queen Of Soul in the first teaser for the film released in December.
Hudson is seen in a glittering golden dress as she grabs the microphone and takes out “What you want, baby, I have it” in front of an empty auditorium.
The film follows the rise of Franklin’s career from the very beginning when she sang in her father’s church choir.
Respect also plays Marlon Wayans in Aretha’s first husband Ted White and Audra McDonald as mother Barbara Franklin.

In between: although Hudson portrayed Aretha, she let a bit of her own personality shine through between the shots in a pair of cozy black Ugg boots
Change of scene: the duo played a scene that took place in a Harlem ally
Intense: based on the facial expressions of the actor it turned out that the scene revolved around an intense father-daughter conversation
Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner and Mary J. Blige complete the ensemble.
Franklin chose Hudson for the role before she died in August 2018.
“We talked a long time about how I played her,” she added, “so I hope I make her proud.” [and] do her justice. “
Respect is scheduled for release August 14, 2020.
