Jennifer Garner attended his first Comic-Con this weekend to promote Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular heroes.
Reprising her role as Elektra after nearly two decades for the Marvel film, the actress, 52, needed a superhero to come to her rescue when she attended the convention at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego on Friday, July 26.
At one point, Garner found herself trapped in an elevator with other people, which she decided to document with a series of videos she posted to Instagram on Saturday.
“Hey guys, we’re stuck in this elevator. I could use a Wolverine. I could use a Deadpool. I could use somebody,” Garner, 52, shared in the first of seven Instagram selfie clips.
—Yes, we’re looking for some stairs —he added with a bit of concern in his voice.
“Thanks for having us. It’s my first Comic-Con,” he said with a bit of sarcasm to end the first clip.
A day after attending a panel during her first Comic-Con for her reprisal of Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine, Jennifer Garner found herself trapped in an elevator at the Hard Rock San Diego with several other people.
Sitting and crouching in the corner of the elevator, Garner gave fans a follow-up and began commenting on how “hot” it was inside the small, enclosed space.
“Don’t cut the blue wire,” is what we’re hearing, he joked on camera.
Garner later explained that she had heard it was better to sit in a broken elevator, stating that she had heard that possibly “on an episode of The Office or Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
When they were trapped in the elevator for just over 40 minutes, Garner began singing “99 bottles of beer,” and a few minutes later, one of the other people in the elevator was able to call 9-1-1.
‘A few minutes later, he whispered, ‘We’re 45 minutes in. We’re calling 9-1-1,’ and then panned toward the people with their cell phones out, who were said to be part of his team, with the exception of the elevator attendant.
“I thought we were in Vegas,” she whispered when someone said they were in San Diego.
When the hour was up, the lights inside the elevator began to flicker and then come back on, all while the Once Upon A Farm co-owner began singing Madonna’s hit song, Like A Prayer, with her hands clasped together in a prayer position.
Garner joked about “looking for stairs” after she and a few other people got stuck in the elevator.
Garner proceeded to give updates at the 11-minute mark, where she complained that it was “hot”; at the 35-minute mark, she talked about why she was sitting in the elevator; she started singing 99 Bottles of Beer after 41.5 minutes.
As the hour mark approached, the lights inside the elevator began to flicker and then come back on, all while the actress began singing Madonna’s hit song Like A Prayer with her hands clasped together in a prayer position.
After an hour and 12 minutes, rescuers finally managed to open the elevator doors and rescued Garner and company.
‘YAYYYY,’ the Daredevil star declared as first responders opened the doors.
Garner, who reprises her role as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine; stars on stage include Ryan Reynolds, director Shawn Levy, actors Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Dafne Keen, Jennifer Garner, Chris Evans, Channing Tatum and Wesley Snipes
Garner also got into Deadpool and Wolverine promo mode in another Instagram post.
Garner first played Elektra alongside Ben Affleck in Daredevil (2003), whom she married two years later but eventually divorced in 2018.
The ordeal eventually came to an end when rescuers arrived and managed to open the elevator doors at the hour and 12 minute mark, prompting an excited look from Garner, whose eyes widened as everyone began to cheer.
The mother of three, whom she shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck, reprised the role of her Marvel character Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine for the first time in nearly 20 years since she starred in Elektra (2005).
She originally played the heroine in Daredevil (2003), opposite Affleck, who she jokes about in the new film, according to People.
Deadpool & Wolverine was released in cinemas in the UK on July 22, and then in the US on July 26.
