According to the synopsis, Beetlejuice, written by Michael McDowell and Warren Skaaren, follows the story of a married couple who recently died in a car accident.
The story begins with the now ghosts, Barbara (Davis) and Adam Maitland (Baldwin), who are trapped in their former place of residence.
In a desperate attempt to prevent their house from being occupied and remodeled by new inhabitants, they turn to the titular bio-exorcist (Keaton) to scare the current family.
Then the mischievous Beetlejuice wreaks havoc on Charles (Jones) and Delia Deetz (O’Hara), as well as their daughter Lydia (Ryder), who is the only one able to see the ghosts.
