JD Sports will reveal how consumer confidence is faring after rival Nike sounded the alarm bells last week.

The ‘King of Trainers’ – who is seen as a bellwether for the health of the High Street and has celebrity clients including Rita Ora – will update the market on Thursday.

Analysts predict record sales of £10.5 billion for the 12 months to February 3, up 4 percent on last year.

Economists predict retail sales will pick up this summer as the economy turns around.

But investors will be looking for signs of weakness after US trainer giant Nike warned of lower sales this year.

Boss Régis Schultz must reassure shareholders after a disappointing profit warning in January. It expects profits of between £915m and £935m.
