The body of tragic teenager Jay Slater has arrived in the UK two months after he disappeared while on holiday in Tenerife, his family have revealed.
A funeral date has also been set for the 19-year-old’s funeral on Saturday 10 August at Accrington Crematorium Chapel in Lancashire. Sun reports.
Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing on the morning of June 17 as he attempted to walk back to his holiday accommodation in Los Cristianos, taking what he believed was a shortcut through the mountains.
His body was found more than a month later by a Spanish search team, despite several efforts to find him earlier.
A GoFundMe fundraising campaign originally created to help find the bricklayer’s apprentice has… have been used to repatriate Jay’s body and give him, as his mother Debbie Duncan put it in an appeal for more donations, “the send-off he deserves” after he was found in the Barranco Juan López valley last month.
At the time of writing, the fund (set up by her friend Lucy Mae just hours after her disappearance) had reached £74,000 of its £30,000 target.
An autopsy in the UK concluded that Jay died from traumatic head injuries consistent with a fall from a height.
This is a developing story.
