Jax Taylor has revealed he “had no idea he was a narcissist” until his 30-day stay in a mental health facility, amid his split from wife Brittany Cartwright.
The 45-year-old Vanderpump Rules star spoke candidly about her treatment when she made an appearance on her When reality hits podcast – where he answered questions from fans.
Asked if he thought he was a “textbook narcissist,” the owner of Jax Bar didn’t hesitate to answer “yes.”
“I’m a narcissist, yes,” he continued. “I like breadcrumbing, bombing (and also) manipulating people. I’m lacking in some things, but I do all those things. I had no idea there were terms for these things.”
The father of three-year-old son Cruz with ex-wife Brittany Cartwright said he “looked up the definition” of several terms only to realise it described his behaviour perfectly.

“So yeah, I have to humble myself and say, ‘Do you think you’re a narcissist?’ And I do,” he said. “I don’t know how I became a narcissist. (But) I think I am a narcissist.”
The reality TV star said she “learned probably five new terms” that she had “never heard of” before starting treatment in July.
Jax is not a diagnosed narcissist, but he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.
“I’m not a doctor, so I can’t say for sure,” he added. “But just looking up the definition, I agree.”
She continued: “I’ve been that person for years and I had no idea. I was never held accountable for my actions for many, many years until recently, until people got fed up.”
The former SUR waiter said people – including his wife, whom he admitted he took for granted – were “tired of being walked on eggshells” around him.
“Brittany has been asking me to do something like this for a long time and I come from a background where we don’t really ask for help,” he explained, adding that she had been begging him to do something about her anger issues for years.
While at the treatment center, he spent seven hours a day in intensive care, which made him nervous about leaving and returning to real life and his life again.
She found solace in the routine of treatment. “I got there, I hated it and… then I loved it,” she said in a clip from her podcast with Cartwright When Reality Hits posted on Instagram.

To be clear, no doctor has diagnosed Jax as a narcissist, but he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.
After getting used to the place, Taylor said she didn’t want to leave. “I felt really sad to leave. I was crying, thinking ‘I don’t want to leave.'”
“I knew what I was doing. I was reading, I was in that world,” he explained.
Her fear of returning to her real life because she felt like “the world was going to hit me like a ton of bricks.”
“And I had to go back to film my show and I know everyone is mad at me and they’re going to come after me and I was like ‘I’m so scared, I’m so scared’ and it’s been happening and I’ve been dealing with it, but it’s scary,” she said.
