A $350,000 luxury supercar was destroyed after an arsonist used a pizza box to light a fire under the vehicle while it was parked on the street.

Security cameras captured the hooded firefighter hiding from passing cars behind a tree next to the McLaren on suburban Sefton Street in western Sydney about 11pm on Friday.

The car’s owner, builder and father of three, Hamad Ajaje, bought the vehicle about a year ago and put it up for sale online three days ago.

“It’s very disturbing, I mean I can’t even look at it anymore,” Ajaje told Nine News.

Footage shows the man holding an umbrella in one hand and using it to shield the flame as he lit a lighter and set the cardboard pizza box on fire.

Once the handheld incendiary bomb was lit, footage shows he crouched down, stuck it under the bumper of the car and ran down the street.

Neighbors quickly realized the fire and ran to try to put out the car with a garden hose, but to no avail.

Within 15 minutes, the fire had grown despite the rainy weather, and the front left side of the car became a bright fireball.

Firefighters arrived just as Ajaje and his teenage son were returning in their work vehicle after going out to dinner.

“It’s devastating, to be honest, you know the way we came back and, you know, we saw it set on fire and we burst into tears,” Mr Ajaje said.

‘What can you do?

‘I don’t think there’s anyone who has it available for us or anything like that.

“Maybe they wanted to go for a walk and I never gave them the chance.”

The car is missing and Ajaje says he hopes insurance will cover at least some of the damage.

NSW Police confirmed they are investigating the fire and detectives are searching for the arsonist.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
