Jasper Cillessen fell through the Netherlands after contracting Covid with Tim Krul who was expected to be number 1
Jasper Cillessen misses Holland’s Euro 2020 campaign after Valencia’s goalkeeper contracted the coronavirus and was a major blow to Frank de Boer’s side… and Tim Krul is now number 1 for Orange this summer
The Netherlands have been dealt a blow to their European Championship bid after Jasper Cillessen was banned from the tournament after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 32-year-old was not only in the race to start at the European Championship, but also received the number one shirt from Frank de Boer, but he will now not be seen at all after contracting the virus.
A week before the start of the tournament, AZ Alkmaar shot stopper Marco Bizot was included in the Orange squad to compete for the international gloves together with Tim Krul and Maarten Stekelenburg.

Holland boss Frank de Boer dropped the 32-year-old from his selection on Tuesday morning
Holland boss de Boer admitted it was a difficult choice to leave Cillessen out of the roster completely, but claimed he didn’t know if the Valencia goalkeeper would be fully fit by the time the tournament started.
The Orange boss told a press conference on Tuesday: ‘I informed Jasper of my decision this morning. Let me start by saying that I find this incredibly unpleasant for Jasper.
“But I had to make the decision. He is known to have tested positive for corona. As a result, he missed an important part of the preparation. We don’t know how long it will take for him to be 100 percent fit again. I don’t want to take any risks in that regard.
Cillessen had only just returned from a long-term injury during an injury-prone season at Valencia at
“We are on the eve of a European Championship and I want certainty, but I think it is for Jasper. I feel very sorry for Jasper, I have to deal with it the most.
‘But I think it’s right. He wouldn’t make it through the first game anyway, and you don’t know what else it does to your body. I now have three fit players at my disposal.’
Stand-in goalkeeper Bizot has already trained with the Netherlands, so his transition to the team is easy, despite Cillessen’s absence.

But it marks an unfortunate period for the Valencia shot-stopper, who has struggled with several injuries over the course of the season.
A mix of knee and muscle problems limited the Dutchman to just 10 appearances this season, with Cillessen also missing the last two international breaks as he was sidelined.
Norwich goalkeeper Krul, who recently promoted to the top tier with the Canary Islands and traveled with the Netherlands in their last two tournaments, is expected to replace Cillessen.
