Controversial columnist Jason Whitlock has accused “the entire WNBA” of corruption, claiming Angel Reese’s record-breaking double-double streak is a “stunt” orchestrated by players and referees.
The podcaster also claimed that the Chicago Sky star receives preferential treatment over her Rookie of the Year rival, Caitlin Clark.
Reese continued his historic streak on Wednesday, securing a 14th consecutive double-double in the final seconds of the Chicago Sky’s win over the Atlanta Dream.
Indiana Fever star Clark has also broken records this season and both are in contention to be crowned Rookie of the Year.
But Whitlock believes “the entire WNBA is on board with Angel Reese’s stunt.” And she even revived the argument that Reese and Clark are treated differently because of their race.
Jason Whitlock says Angel Reese’s record-breaking double-double streak is a ‘trick’
“Racial idolatry… Do you see people going out of their way, not in Indiana Fever, to help Caitlin Clark?” he asked.
Whitlock pointed to the late foul that allowed Reese to score the point he needed for a double-double on Wednesday.
“They’re up seven points with 12 seconds left,” Whitlock said. “In 99.9 percent of the games … the other team doesn’t even guard you. They let the clock run out and everyone goes to the locker room.”
Instead, the Sky players pass the ball to Reese, who is fouled, to the delight of the crowd but to the frustration of Whitlock.
“When I watch this video, the referee seems to be aware of it, because the whistle seems very fast to me,” he continued.
“You don’t have to call that foul, and you don’t have to commit it. That’s why I say everyone is involved… it’s the Atlanta Dream doing the impossible.”
“Do you see people bending over backwards to help Caitlin Clark?” Whitlock said of Reese.
