An upcoming Apple TV+ series starring and co-created by Jason Momoa has sparked outrage after vendors at a farmers’ market learned production would be shut down for two weeks over the holiday.

Vendors at the Kaimu Farmer’s Market on Hawaii’s Big Island expressed dismay after learning that the Momoa-led show, Chief of War, would be taking over the lot where the market is normally held for the next two Saturdays. The Kaimu Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday.

After the market announced that production was shut down on December 3 and 10, Sellers criticized Momoa, 43, and the film crew for taking cases away during “peak season.”

In addition to starring in the limited series, Momoa also serves as a writer and executive producer, he says deadline. He co-created the series with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, intended to tell Hawaiian history from an Indigenous perspective.

Announcing the closure on Facebook on Halloween, the market posted: “The film crew has requested our market area for another Saturday, so we are now closed for 2 weeks in December, the 3rd and the 10th.”

Needless to say, sellers were unhappy with the news.

“Thank you Jason for taking our lively hood away during the busiest time of the year,” one Facebook user wrote.

there’s no way it doesn’t impact the bottom dollar of our wallets. However, maybe it will make the marketplace more known in the future. Two weekends during the shopping season is tough. I really appreciate the community atmosphere because it’s my community too and it’s sad to spend it in another community,” another Facebook user wrote.

“These are your big Hollyweird sale. No surprise. They make A LOT of money. Too bad they don’t compensate those little people who lose money, who can’t feed their families or pay their bills or give their kids presents because of it. But like I said, no surprise! At least we get a notice period and can try to sell more on the other weekends,” wrote another.

Another raised how the closure would result in “a lot of lost revenue” as they suggested keeping the market in a different location.

“That’s a lot of lost income for Puna people, especially right before the holidays. Do you think we can hold the market in a different location?’ one wrote.

A Facebook user suggested selling directly to the film crew during the shutdown.

“Has anyone contacted Production? They have loads of people that they have to feed all day, every day for a few weeks while they are on site. Has anyone considered that the farmers sell those two weeks directly to production? It can limit the losses they would otherwise suffer.’

Speak with TMZthe farmer’s market manager claimed, the vendors’ market would not compensate for the closure.

‘We didn’t talk to them at all because they rent the property from the property managers, just like we rent the property for the Saturday market. About 6 weeks ago we were told that the property manager would not allow us to hold the market on December 3 and about 3 weeks ago he informed us that we would not be using the property until the 3rd or the 10th. We weren’t given a choice.’

‘It hits our farmer the hardest, because we don’t have a place to sell eggs, for example. The chickens keep laying, whether we have a market or not,” they continued.
