Jason Kelce hated playing against his younger brother Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs while he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles for one particular reason.
Kelce had no problem with little brother competition playing for the City of Brotherly Love’s professional soccer team. The now ESPN analyst hated losing to Travis.
The Eagles and Chiefs met five times with the Kelce brothers in opposite locker rooms, and Philadelphia only won once: their last meeting in November 2023.
Travis’ Chiefs were victorious the first four times the brothers were opponents on the gridiron, including the biggest, the 2023 Super Bowl.
“It’s annoying, that’s what it is,” Jason referring to his brother during this week’s Monday Night Countdown. ‘Because it’s so good… that’s why. They were very good. I was only lucky enough to beat Trav once.
“But when you’re on the field getting ready to play against your brother, there’s something about seeing your brother there that brings back memories of being in the backyard playing football again.”
Travis and Jason Kelce were opponents in the NFL five times, and the Chiefs won four.
Jason explained that the reason he hated playing Travis was because the Chiefs were so good.
Kelce opened up about the brotherly rivalry with his ESPN colleagues as Jim and John Harbuagh faced off for the third time in their careers on Monday.
It was the first all-AFC matchup for the Harbaugh duo, as Jim is in his first season coaching the Los Angeles Chargers after a non-NFL national championship run at Michigan.
Under the NFL’s current scheduling model, AFC and NFC teams are only guaranteed to play each other in the regular season every four years.
That means the next game between the Chiefs and Eagles will be in 2027.
It remains to be seen if Travis will be an active participant in that game, but Jason will certainly be watching his former team from the sidelines after bringing the curtain down on his career earlier this year.
