Jason Demetriou sacked by South Sydney Rabbitohs after terrible start to NRL season

Jason Demetriou has been sacked by the South Sydney Rabbitohs following the club’s terrible start to the 2024 season.

Demetriou’s position had been under major threat after he oversaw a torrid start to the new campaign, with the club winning just one of their eight games so far, leaving them bottom of the table.

As a result, the club’s hierarchy held a board meeting on Tuesday evening which concluded with the decision to terminate the coach’s contract, effective immediately.

Assistant coach Ben Hornby has been named interim manager for the remainder of the season as the club begins its search for Demetriou’s successor.

Wayne Bennett is the leading candidate to take charge, while Craig Bellamy and club hero Sam Burgess have also been linked with the top job.

More to follow.
