Indian star boaters PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy started their Japan Open campaign at the top, winning their respective first round matches of the tournament. PV Sindhu defeated local girl Sayaka Takahashi 21-17, 7-21, 21-13, while Kidambi Srikanth recorded a 21-13, 21-15 victory in the straight game against Chinese Yuxiang Huang to enter the second round.
HS Prannoy beat the winner of the Asian Games gold medal in 2018 Jonatan Christie 21-18, 21-17 in the first round of the competition.
Kidambi will face Hong Kong wing Ki Vincent Wong, while Sindhu will face China's Fangjie Gao in their second-round matches.
