Indian badminton doubles pair Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy won a three-game thriller to advance to the next round of the 2018 Japan Open on Wednesday. Attri and Reddy defeated Malaysia Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia 15-21, 23-21, 21-19 in a game that lasted 54 minutes.
While the other pair of men's doubles from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and the pair of women's doubles by Ashwini Ponappa-N Sikki Reddy, fell out of the tournament in the first round held in Tokyo.
In the other men's doubles match, Satwiksairaj's unranked pair Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a 12-21, 17-21 consecutive defeat against Japan's third seed Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda in 38 minutes.
In women's doubles, the pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy was overtaken by South Korean Chang Ye Na and Jung Kyung Eun 17-21, 13-21 in 34 minutes.
