Jamie Theakston has revealed that he has stage 1 laryngeal cancer.
The Heart Radio presenter, 53, took to Instagram to share his health update with his fans on Tuesday after previously revealing he booked a doctors appointment after listeners noticed there was something not quite right with his voice.
Laryngeal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the larynx (voice box).
Jamie said: ‘Hi everyone, as you know I recently had an operation to remove a lesion on my vocal cords.
“The biopsy identified that it was stage 1 laryngeal cancer. So I have cancer, but cancer doesn’t have me!”

Jamie shared this post on social media on Tuesday.
‘The outlook is very positive and I hope to be with you again in October.
‘Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the more capable hands of JK and Amanda.
‘A huge thank you to them and the entire Global family who have supported us incredibly.
‘Be thankful for this day, and when I see you again, I’ll have a great story to tell you.’
On September 1, Jamie said he had gotten checked out after some listeners noticed something was wrong with his voice.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘Well, some of you, my listeners, have noticed that my voice hasn’t sounded right these past few weeks. I have to thank you.
“I got it checked out. The doctors found a lesion on my vocal cords which they removed this weekend. Thanks for all the kind messages. I’ll be back on my feet soon. In the meantime…” she ended the post with a zipper mouth emoji.
On September 1, he shared this post thanking listeners for spotting something wrong with his voice, which prompted them to quickly review it.
A host of celebrities took to the comments to wish Jamie all the best.
Shortly after Jamie’s news broke, Amanda wrote: ‘Our wonderful @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer.
“His prognosis is very good and he has an amazing team around him. Jamie. We love you and miss you and hope to see you very soon.
‘With @sophietheakstonjewellery, your beautiful children, us and the entire nation with you… YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS .’
Jamie joined Heart FM in May 2005, after three years at BBC Radio 1.
He co-presented BBC One’s Saturday morning children’s programme Live & Kicking alongside Zoe Ball from 1996 to 1999, and co-presented the music programme Top of the Pops from 1998 to 2003.
He has won a BAFTA for Live & Kicking and numerous awards for his radio work.
