Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella comically slipped in the build-up to Tottenham’s first two goals, before opting to change his boots.
The red winger was at fault for goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, after stumbling on the slippery pitch in a horrendous first 10 minutes.
First he lost his balance just five minutes into the confrontation and seconds later, Solanke ran towards the near post to touch a cross that beat Robert Sánchez.
Six minutes later, Cucurella was found guilty of the same error after falling and Kulusevski took advantage in style by squeezing in his shot.
In desperation, the 26-year-old ran to the Chelsea technical area and changed boots, shrugging his shoulders in frustration.
Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher was taken aback and said: “Cucurella is coming to the dock, don’t blame anyone else, it’s your fault son!”
‘Absolutely schoolboy stuff. Embarrassing.
‘He slips again. Look at him shrugging his shoulders. Didn’t you warm up?
Commentator Peter Drury couldn’t help but make a festive joke, telling viewers: “Well, it’s pantomime season and, like Cinderella, Cucurella needs a slipper that fits.”
However, the change of boots seemed to do Cucurella a world of good after he gave the ball to Jadon Sancho, who halved the deficit with a magnificent long-range shot.
