Jamie Carragher has attacked Mohamed Salah after Liverpool’s recent outburst over the stalemate in his contract negotiations.
The Egyptian’s contract expires at the end of this season and he recently claimed there are no new offers left on the table from Merseyside bosses.
The forward conducted a rare interview with sport mail and a small group of other journalists after scoring twice in the 3-2 win at Southampton.
Now, former Reds defender Carragher has spoken out, branding the Egyptian “selfish” for his comments.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “Of course there have been discussions. At the moment there is obviously a big difference in valuation, how Salah and his agent are valued, in terms of contract length, and how Liverpool are doing. .
“So the reason Liverpool wouldn’t have offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will reject it. “They are still in talks, I’m desperate for them to meet in the middle.

Jamie Carragher has branded Salah “selfish” for coming forward with the claims
‘But I must say that I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night. Liverpool have Real Madrid during the week and Manchester City next weekend. That is the story of Liverpool at the moment.
“And Mo Salah, we know, especially the local journalists close to the club, that in seven years he has been in the mixed zone twice. That is absolutely fine.
But he stops for the third time in Southampton after winning the game against Liverpool and eliminating them.
‘If you continue to post comments or your agent continues to post cryptic tweets, you are selfish. “That’s thinking about themselves and not about the football club.”
As reported by sport mailLiverpool rejected a lucrative £150m offer from Saudi side Al-Ittihad in 2023. On that occasion, the Reds were unable to compete with a staggering £1.25m-a-week tax-free salary offered by the club.
Addressing their contractual impasse on Sunday, Salah said: ‘We are almost in December and I have not yet received any offer to stay at the club.
“I’m probably more out than in. You know that I have been in the club for many years.
“There is no club like this. But in the end it’s not in my hands. Like I said, it’s December and I still haven’t received anything about my future.

‘I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or in those of the fans.”
Furious Liverpool fans labeled the club’s owners “disgraceful” and “unforgivable” following Salah’s revelation.
Salah has started this season on fire under new manager Arne Slot, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions, but has thrown his future on Merseyside up in the air.
Liverpool came from behind to claim a 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with Salah the hero on the south coast.
