Jamie Carragher has criticised one of Liverpool’s star players after a baffling moment during their 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Reds claimed a convincing win thanks to a first-half brace from Luis Diaz before Mo Salah sealed the win shortly after the break.
But they could have scored even more goals in the second half, and Carragher was unimpressed with a player who missed a golden opportunity to make it 4-0.
After Liverpool had opened up the United defence with an incisive attack, the ball fell to Dominik Szoboszlai, who looked to have the easy task of finishing from close range. Instead, he made several attempts to shoot before being stopped without even trying, infuriating Carragher.
“What is he doing? Is he trying to be arrogant?” an angry Carragher asked on Sky Sports’ commentary programme.

Szoboszlai (right) missed a golden opportunity to make it 4-0 in the second half.
The midfielder faked a shot from just over six yards out and was eventually blocked, with Carragher accusing him of being “unprofessional”.
Despite Liverpool being in complete control of the match, Carragher referred to how Everton squandered a two-goal lead to lose to Bournemouth just 24 hours earlier, and insisted Szoboszlai’s decision not to shoot could prove costly.
“If United score a goal the crowd gets up in arms, we saw what happened to Everton yesterday,” he continued.
“What Szoboszlai is saying is ridiculous. It’s ridiculous, it’s unprofessional.”
Commentator Gary Neville was also baffled, with the United legend claiming: “He’s playing. The rest of his team-mates should give him a beating for that. It’s a freedom.”
“It’s the sort of thing you’d do in training and get told off, let alone in a game at Old Trafford.”
Fortunately for Szoboszlai, his error did not haunt Liverpool, who held on for the remaining minutes of the game and maintained their perfect start to the season.
Arne Slot’s men have won their first three games without conceding a goal, leaving them behind Manchester City in the goals scored table.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have made the perfect start to the season but the Dutchman is likely to have been irked by Szoboszlai’s profligacy in front of goal on Sunday.
Szoboszlai has become a key player under the new Dutch coach, registering two assists in the opening weeks of the campaign.
But Slot may have given him a telling-off after the end of the game for his lack of killer instinct in front of goal when Liverpool had the chance to really put United under control.
