James Gunn has announced that he will direct the next film based on DC Comics, Superman: Legacy.
The 56-year-old filmmaker revealed the news through a series of tweets he shared on Wednesday afternoon.
The director, who recently stated that he had big plans for the future of DC Studios, also penned a lengthy message about his affinity for the Man of Steel.
Gunn began his statement by talking about his connection to the movie’s planned release date.
“Yes, I am directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025,” he stated. ‘My brother Matt told me that when he saw the release date he started crying. I asked him why. He said, “Dude, it’s daddy’s birthday.” He hadn’t noticed me.”

Gunn announced in the fall of 2022 when he took over the DC role that he was writing a new Superman movie.
According to Deadline, that’s something Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav wanted right away.
It was also shared that Henry Cavill would not be returning as the Man of Steel.
