James Corden admits leaving his US TV show is ‘pretty terrifying’ but reveals he feels an ‘urgent need’ to leave and focus on theater work
James Corden has admitted leaving his US TV show is “very terrifying”.
The 44-year-old presenter decided to quit his job hosting The Late Late Show and moved his family from Los Angeles to his native UK.
And now, James has admitted to feeling a great deal of anxiety and fear as he prepares to finish his trip at the end of April.
But the actor also revealed that he feels an “urgent need” to quit coveted hosting gigs and focus on stage work.
Speaking at a PaleyFest event in LA on Sunday, James admitted: ‘I haven’t felt this fear since I decided to take the show, to move here. I didn’t feel like I was on shaky ground… (but) I have to embrace that fear…

I just realize that what I’m trying to do is not the way we often go.
To go from national stage, writing a BBC TV show, Broadway, late night talk show host, filming things in the middle of that, stopping the late night talk show and then going, ‘Oh, I’d like to play again’ now. ”
It’s not the road traveled as far as I know, so with that comes an enormous amount of fear. It’s terrifying, it’s absolutely terrifying.
Speaking about his upcoming plans, James said, “There’s a lot of things I like to do, but it’s very dependent on the people who want me to do them… I think it’s going to be really important for me to breathe and take a minute.”
Discussing returning to his theatrical roots, Gavin and Stacey admit: ‘It was never more urgent in me to leave to do it (theatre).
I’d be really upset with myself if I didn’t go do another play or go back to a play I’ve already done in the next year or a year and a half. I would give anything to go back and do a show again, and I would give anything at all.
James concluded by insisting that he feels he is making the right decision to walk away from the show.
He said: “I’m sure it’s the right thing to do. I’m pretty sure we did everything we wanted to do and I think it’s really important to get things done.
Real talk: Speaking at PaleyFest in LA on Sunday, he admitted, “I haven’t felt this fear since I decided to take the show, to move here.” I’ve never felt on such unstable ground.

James’ final episode of The Late Late Show is scheduled to air on US CBS on April 27.
Tom Cruise will reportedly join James in a musical performance during The Lion King at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood for the final installment.
In April 2022, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that James had quit his chat show to spend more time with his young family.
The star and his wife of 10 years are considering moving back to the UK with their three children, but are still trying to “figure out” what’s next for the family.
