It comes as Hollywood writer Lance Hill sued Amazon.com on Tuesday to stop its upcoming remake of the 1989 film Road House, arguing the film violates his rights to the original script.
Lance, 81, said in the lawsuit in federal court in California that Amazon never received a license to remake his script after he claimed his copyright to it.
It sought an unspecified amount of damages and an injunction to prevent Amazon from distributing the film without a new license.
The remake, starring Jake, will debut as an opening night movie at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, on March 8 and then move to Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform on March 21.
UFC fighter Conor, 35, will also star in the reboot of the cult classic starring Patrick Swayze.
Stills from the film have been released ahead of Road House’s scheduled March 21 release on Amazon Prime.

Conor looked bloodied as he posed shirtless in a behind-the-scenes photo from the set.
A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said the lawsuit was “completely baseless.”
Hill’s lawyer, Marc Toberoff, said major studios should “respect the fundamental rights and artistry of the creators on whose sweat and labor their empires are based.”
The lawsuit says Hill wrote the script for Road House in 1986 and transferred his rights to the film’s producer, United Artists, that same year.
United States copyright law allows artists to cancel transfers and reclaim their rights after decades in some circumstances. Hill told the court that he notified Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which owns United Artists, in 2021 that he claimed his rights to the script.
MGM reportedly responded that Hill could not claim the copyright.
Amazon acquired MGM in March 2022. Hill said he regained his copyright last November and that Amazon set a deadline to finish the film the day before the termination took effect.
Hill said Amazon took “extreme measures” to meet the deadline, including using artificial intelligence to recreate actors’ voices during a Screen Actors Guild strike, but didn’t finish the film until January.
Amazon’s spokesperson denied that the remake uses artificial intelligence instead of the actors’ voices.
Hill frequently used the pseudonym David Lee Henry in Hollywood and is best known for the cult film Road House.
Henry is credited with creating the original Road House story and shares co-writing credit on the screenplay with 71-year-old Hilary Henkin.
Hollywood writer Lance Hill sued Amazon.com on Tuesday to stop its upcoming remake of the 1989 film Road House, starring the late Patrick Swayze, shown in a still from the cult film.
Swayze appears in a Road House fight scene.
Rebooted in the Florida Keys, the new version is directed by Doug Liman, whose filmography includes Swingers, The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Jake has a long-standing connection to the late Patrick Swayze, having worked with him on the beloved 2001 sci-fi thriller Donnie Darko.
“He was always very loving and charming to me,” Jake recalled on Good Morning America in 2022 after wrapping production on the new Road House.
“I take it very seriously in playing the role and there are some things I learn from it, but overall we made a completely new movie and I’m very excited about it.”
He acknowledged that remaking Road House was a formidable task, saying: “These are big shoes to fill, but Patrick was a friend when he was here.”
Patrick Swayze died at the age of 57 in 2009, less than two years after he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.
The new Road House will not be released in theaters, but will be available to stream through Amazon Prime on March 21.
Director Doug Liman recently announced that he will protest the film’s premiere at SXSW in response to Amazon’s decision to skip a theatrical release of the film, which he claims was made for theaters.
