Jack Vidgen recalls being ‘put on the spot’ by Kyle Sandilands when asked if he had a ‘boyfriend or girlfriend’ at age 14 after winning Australia’s Got Talent
Jack Vidgen said he felt “put on the spot” when radio host Kyle Sandilands asked him at age 14 if he was dating anyone.
Jack was interviewed by Kyle the day after he won Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, and innocently asked if the young singer had a “boyfriend or girlfriend”.
He told Jack, 25, who is now openly gay Yahoo Lifestyle On Thursday, the question surprised him because he wasn’t sure about his sexual orientation at the time.

Reflecting on the interview from over a decade ago, Jack said he knew Kyle’s intention was never to ‘get out of it’ and confirmed that the two are now good friends.
He set me up straight away and I mean, now I’m friends with Kyle and I know he would never come from a place that he wanted out on me because he loves gay people. But I was like, “Holy s**t, does anyone know something that I don’t? Did I say something? Did anyone find out something?”
Jack went on to say that he “didn’t know” about his sexuality at the time and was in a “safer position” to explore his feelings when he stepped away from the spotlight at the age of 16.

He said, “I was like, ‘Holy s**t, does anyone know something that I don’t?'” Did you say something? Did anyone discover anything? ”
Jack said he “didn’t know” his sexuality at the time and was in a “safer position” to explore his feelings when he stepped away from the spotlight at the age of 16 (the photo was recently taken with a friend)
I quit music for five years, and during that time I was out. So I think it helped me in a lot of ways to do that,” he said.
While appearing on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! Last year, Jack said he was concerned that people might think he was “perverted” or “dirty” for being gay.
The singer told AFL legend Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico that fame would likely delay his decision to move out.

“I feel like maybe I was ready to get out early,” he said.
He added, “But maybe it’s because of, well, everything that’s happened and it being so well known and public…and also (Australia’s Got Talent)”.
Jack revealed how he had a girlfriend from the ages of 17 to 19, but described it as more of a “glorious friendship”, and when he finally came out it felt “incredible”.
Told by AFL legend Robert DiPerDomenico that fame would likely delay his decision to walk out, he didn’t really feel comfortable in himself until he stepped out of the spotlight.
It was unbelievable. (It was) one of the most incredible feelings of my life.
Jack admitted, however, that he struggled with how some would view his sexuality.
It just becomes something in your head that’s like… dirty and messy. And it becomes… you think something’s awry when it really isn’t.
