Australian Jack Doohan, son of legendary motorcycle racer Mick Doohan, will compete for the Alpine Formula One team in 2025.
Doohan’s promotion was formally announced in August, but rumors in the paddock recently suggested he could be snubbed by Williams star Franco Colapinto.
But Alpine has confirmed the 21-year-old Australian will take part by announcing his number for next season.
“We can’t wait to see the number 7 on the A525,” the team posted on social media.
Doohan spoke of his excitement about his rookie campaign in F1.
‘So, that’s it. “No. 7 will be my racing number for 2025,” Doohan said in a social media post.

‘I’m super excited. I really wanted to pick a number I’d run before, something that had meaning to me.
‘I raced with the number 7 in 2019 and also one of my idols, a super special person and driver, Kimi Raikkonen, who also drove with that number.
“I really want to continue and make it my own and have some luck with the number 7.”
Doohan has been Alpine’s reserve driver for the past two years, after his compatriot Piastri left the French team and joined McLaren.
“It’s an exciting time, a proud day for my family, and I look forward to taking it all in and putting in the effort behind the scenes,” Doohan said in a statement released by Alpine in August.

“There is a lot of work ahead to be prepared and ready and in the meantime I will do my best to absorb as much information and knowledge so that I am ready to take the step forward.”
Doohan, whose father Mick is a five-time 500cc motorcycle world champion, carved out a successful career in Formula 3 and Formula 2 before becoming Alpine’s permanent reserve driver and impressing team principal Oliver Oakes.
Doohan joins Pierre Gasly as Alpine drivers for the upcoming F1 season which begins at Albert Park on March 14-16.
The emerging Australian talent was runner-up in the 2021 F3 championship and finished third in F2 last year, taking six wins and five pole positions.
