Ivanka Trump spoke for the first time about her father’s court battles during a podcast episode in which she also shed a tear while talking about her “incredibly glamorous” late mother, Ivana.

During an on-camera interview with Lex Fridman, the 42-year-old spoke about Donald Trump’s long series of legal entanglements.

“On a human level, he’s my father and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience, but ultimately, I wish it didn’t have to be that way,” Ivanka revealed.

Donald Trump faces charges stemming from special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into election interference and the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, as well as charges over mishandling of classified documents in Florida.

Trump, 78, is also facing charges of election interference in Georgia. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Later in the podcast, Ivanka also became visibly emotional when asked about her mother, who passed away in July 2022 at the age of 73.

Asked if she missed her, Ivanka said: “A lot. It’s unbelievable how heartbreaking it is to lose a parent.”

‘And her mother still lives with me, my grandmother, who helped raise us, so that’s very special.

Pausing to hold back tears, she added: “I can ask you some questions that I would have asked you… I’m sorry. I wanted to ask my own mother, but it’s difficult.”

Ivana Trump was an Olympic skier and model who was married to Donald Trump from 1977 to 1990. Her daughter described her as “an extraordinary, extraordinary woman.”

“She was a trailblazer in so many different ways: as an athlete and growing up in communist Czechoslovakia, as a fashion mogul, as a real estate executive and builder,” Ivanka said.

‘This pioneering and multi-talented businesswoman. On top of that, I also learned from her to really enjoy life. When I look back, some of my happiest memories of her are on the ocean.just lying on your back, looking at the sun and just enjoying the moment or dancing.

“She loved to dance, so she really taught me a lot about how to live life to the fullest. She had a lot of courage, a lot of conviction, a lot of energy and she was completely comfortable with who she was.”

“I have these vignettes in my mind, seeing her in action in different capacities, often in the context of things I would later do myself,” Ivanka added.

‘So I would go almost every day after school, I would go to the Plaza Hotel and I would follow her as she walked through the halls and just watch her.

“And she was incredibly glamorous. She did everything in four-and-a-half-inch heels and that bouffant. It’s an almost inaccessible image.”

Ivanka was a senior adviser to the Trump administration from 2017 to 2021, but said she is stepping away from politics and has not been heavily involved in his second White House bid.

Along with her half-sister Tiffany, she recently celebrated her father’s 78th birthday by sharing a series of sweet tribute photos on Instagram.

Trump’s eldest daughter has been absent from her father’s 2024 campaign, something she first publicly stated when Donald announced his third run for the White House in 2022.

At the time, she said: “I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family,” the former White House adviser said. “While I will always love and support my father, I will do so outside of the political realm going forward.”

Friedman asked Trump to elaborate on his statement now that Donald has clinched the Republican nomination again and may now be the favorite to win in November.

“It was a decision based on my status as a father, really thinking about what they need from me now. Politics is a complicated business and I think it’s a business you can’t enter into lightly. I think you have to be either fully in or fully out.”

Ivanka referred to the “cost” her children would pay for her absence if she were to fully engage in the election campaign, adding: “I’m not willing to make them pay that cost.”

“As a mother, I think it’s so important to do what’s best for them. I think there are so many ways to help, the magnitude and scale of what can be achieved in public service, but I think there’s something equally valuable about helping in your own community.”
