Lucy said she was “quietly retiring” after “one of the saddest weeks”, referring to the tragic Southport stabbings when three girls lost their lives.

In her post, she shared a heartbreaking video of families laying flowers at the place where the horrible murderers occurred.

She has been one of the main news presenters of the ITV regional news program, Granada Reports since 1988 and celebrated 35 years presenting the program in November 2023 at the age of 64.

Last month it was confirmed that the popular presenter had decided to ‘move on’ after more than three decades presenting the news program Noroeste.

He later confirmed it with a statement on Twitter, where he said that it has been a “privilege” to have the job.

She wrote on Twitter: “I will be quietly retiring; it has been the saddest few weeks.” Like everyone else, my thoughts are only with those girls who lost their lives at Southport.

‘I have met some of the loveliest people this week and throughout my 36 years. It has been a privilege. Thank you.’

Revealing her exit, Lucy said: “This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.”

But now is the right time to move forward. For me it has always been the best job in the world, with the best people in the world, in the best region in the world.

‘I am very grateful to have been given this job all those years ago. I have always done my best to make a positive contribution and I hope to be remembered with some fondness in the years to come.
