Pentre Berw station, on the tiny island of Anglesey in North Wales, has gone on sale for £35,000.

A village railway station “frozen in time” from the 1950s has gone on sale for £35,000.

Pentre Berw station, on the tiny island of Anglesey in North Wales, was once filled with the smoke of steam engines and the sound of whistles, but has been empty for decades.

The red-and-white brick station, located next to a tunnel, is in need of modernisation but could now be converted into housing.

The former rural station still retains its ticket office, toilets, several waiting rooms with wooden shelving in the old London and North Western Railway colours and old tin signs on the walls.

At the end of the station, accessed through an outside door, is an old oil lamp that the station master refilled to signal the passage of trains, before gas or electricity was used.

The station closed in August 1952, more than 60 years after it was built in 1891, and was the first on the Anglesey Central line to close.

Inside, the building is filled with marble fireplaces, solid brick walls, windows, long benches and a unique smell of lamp oil and cut grass.

In its heyday the station served the Central Railway line across the island of Anglesey from Gaerwn to Amlwch.

The railway tracks are still standing, despite not having been used for 70 years, but the sleepers are covered in wild flowers and brambles.

Its new owners will have to apply for planning permission to convert this historic site into a quirky new home.

The time capsule will be auctioned for a guide price of £35,000-£40,000 with a provisional closing date of Thursday 11 July.
