Gislayne Silva de Deus (pictured), 36, helped arrest the murderer of her father Givaldo José Vicente de Deus, 35.

A policewoman who joined the police force to catch her father’s killer told him “you will pay” when she arrested him 25 years later.

Gislayne Silva de Deus, 36, helped arrest Raimundo Alves Gomes, 60, who shot her father at point-blank range over a £20 debt in Boa Vista, Brazil, in February 1999.

The horrific murder led Gislayne, who was nine years old at the time, to vow that she would one day avenge her father.

And when he was finally arrested, on September 25, she told him: ‘It is because of me that you are here, and you will pay, even if it is minimal, you will pay.’

Alves Gomes had been on the run since 2016 despite being convicted of the murder of Givaldo José Vicente de Deus, 35, in 2013.

Ghislayne (pictured, second from left) said arresting her father’s killer had “cleansed her soul”.

Gisylane said: ‘With his arrest, I cleansed my soul and that of my entire family. It was the end of a cycle. “Today we have peace and the feeling that justice was done.”

“This will not bring our father back, but (the murderer) will serve the sentence he should have served many years ago,” he added.

Gislayne’s father. He was playing pool in the Asa Branca neighborhood of Boa Vista when Alves Gomes turned up to collect the £20 debt.

She said he tried to resolve the situation by offering the killer a freezer, but he refused and left before returning about 30 minutes later armed with a gun.

The couple got into a physical fight and his father was fatally shot. He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries.

Gislayne has three sisters and one brother, the youngest of whom was only two years old when her father was killed.

She began studying to be a lawyer, but took the police entrance exam and became a police officer.

“When I was a prison (police officer), I always imagined (the killer) arriving there to serve his sentence,” Gislayne told local media.

She later joined the police as a clerk, where she was assigned to the General Homicide Division (DGH) and tirelessly collected information on her father’s killer, eventually locating him before he was arrested.

Footage showed Gislayne finally coming face to face with her father’s killer at the police station after she helped arrest him.

Alves Gomes was convicted of the murder in 2013, but did not go on the run until 2016, after an arrest warrant was issued for him, some 14 years after committing the crime.

The killer fled the scene before being arrested by police later that day. However, he was inextricably released from police custody before his trial.

Even more inexplicable, the Roraima Court only issued an arrest warrant for the murderer three years after the conviction.

Local media said the statute of limitations for arresting those accused of homicide is 20 years in Brazil, meaning police still had approximately six years to track down his father’s killer.

Alves Gomes was presented before a judge on September 26 and his sentence was confirmed. He was then sent to prison.
