It’s cheaper to go to the local pub than to stay there, according to a new report.

Tyro’s Eat Pay Love report found it costs the average Australian more than $90 a week to stay home.

The figure took into account paying for streaming services, bills, takeaways and drinks, with one in eight Australians paying more than $200 a week to stay.

Almost 60 per cent of Australians also reported that going to their “local” made them feel part of their community.

The widely accepted average cost of a beer was $8.20, the report found, while 12 per cent of Australians are happy to pay more than $12 for a beer (and 26 per cent of those people are from Generation X).

However, almost 40 per cent of Australians use QR codes to order drinks, so they don’t need to have an awkward conversation, and more than a third of Australians are less likely to shout their drinks at their mates compared to the last year.

The report also found that Australians are willing to cut back on other purchases to go to the pub, with 21 per cent willing to postpone buying new clothes, shoes and makeup.

However, more than half of those surveyed reported ordering less expensive meals to save money, while one in three Australians are still willing to pay more to eat out.
