James Bulger’s mother has spoken out against perverse AI-generated videos circulating on TikTok showing her son talking about his murder.
Denise Fergus called the videos “disgusting” adding that “they are bringing a dead child back to life”. He is beyond sick.
James Bulger was murdered in 1993, kidnapped and tortured by Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both aged 10, after his mother momentarily removed his eyes from him.
Now, users of the social media platform have used artificial intelligence to generate likenesses of the boy, giving details of the tragedy.
The videos are not unique. The ‘traumatic porn’ trend has seen AI being used to create ‘fakes’ of other missing or murdered children, including Madeleine McCann and Baby P.

Two 10-year-old boys grabbed 2-year-old James Bulger from his mother in a shopping center in Liverpool, England, then beat him to death.
talking to the mirrorMs Fergus said: ‘It’s one thing to tell the story, I don’t have a problem with that. Everyone knows James’ story anyway.
“But putting on the face of a dead child, talking about what happened to him, is absolutely disgusting. It’s raising a dead child. That’s wrong.’
Stuart, her husband, said he asked a producer in the Philippines to remove the videos when he first found out about it.
The response said: ‘We don’t mean to offend anyone. We only make these videos to make sure the incidents never happen to anyone again. Please continue to support and share my page to spread awareness.’
Stuart told The Mirror that he had reported the videos to TikTok but received no response.
He said: ‘Companies like TikTok should be held accountable. When you report it (to them), things should happen, but they don’t.’
Denise has also called for TikTok to “take it all down.”
On February 12, 1993, Thompson and Venables premeditated the kidnapping of James Bulger, taking him away from his mother in the New Strand shopping center to the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
There, he was thrown headfirst and Bulger suffered facial injuries.
They then took the two-year-old on a two and a half mile walk around Liverpool, claiming to be his brother.
Thompson and Venables took Bulger to a railroad track in Walton, where one threw paint in his eye.
They kicked and stomped on him, threw bricks at him and put batteries in his mouth.
The boys then dropped a 22 lb (10 kg) railway fish plate on Bulgar, who suffered ten skull fractures.
With 42 wounded, pathologists were unable to determine which attack was the fatal blow.
Thompson and Venables placed Bulgar on the other side of the tracks, after which a train tore his body in half.
The attackers became the youngest convicted murderers in modern British history after a woman contacted police and identified Venables.
Later, CCTV footage and forensics helped confirm his role in the murder.
In 2020, TikTok users came under fire for making ‘traumatic pornography’, dressing up as Holocaust victims and talking to the camera as if they were dead.

The footage shows people wearing the Star of David, striped clothing and makeup to look like bruises and cuts and talking to the camera as if they were dead.

In others, the user’s environment is the Auschwitz concentration camp, where more than a million people died.
Some of those who made the content defended their actions, saying that the intention was to “educate people.”
US Holocaust Museum Director of Survivor Affairs Diane Saltzman said Well-informed person: ‘Imitating the experiences of the Holocaust dishonors the memory of the victims, is offensive to the survivors and trivializes history’.
