TURIN — An Italian military plane crashed during an exercise in Turin, hitting a car in which an entire family was traveling and killing a five-year-old girl, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said Saturday.
Italian news agency AGI reported that the victim’s nine-year-old brother was seriously injured, while both parents and the plane’s pilot were not in any danger to their lives.
“The ministry expresses its condolences to the family members,” Crosetto said in a statement, adding that it “has made available all the necessary facilities and skills to manage the emergency and to support everyone involved.”
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the pilot exited the plane by jumping with a parachute. “A terrible tragedy. A prayer and a hug of sincere condolences,” he said.
