A couple who met in the fruit and vegetable aisle at their local Waitrose have tied the knot.

Jessica Weston-Brown met her future husband Jaxom while they were both working as shop assistants at a branch of the supermarket chain in Eastbourne, West Sussex.

Then, on their wedding day last month, the newlyweds visited the shop after saying their vows at a nearby church.

In a world where it’s increasingly common to meet your match on a dating app rather than in real life, Mr and Mrs Weston-Brown’s meeting has all the hallmarks of a classic love story.

The couple met in September 2017. Jessica, then 20, was tasked by her manager with showing Jaxom how to stack French fries on the shelf.

She then invited the rookie to join her and other staff members at a Halloween party. Jessica told him The BBC that the couple got along well and “talked all night.”

Jessica and Jaxom soon began dating and their relationship even survived a period of long distance when Jaxom went to work at a branch of the store in Cambridge.

After joking about returning to Waitrose, where their romance began, the pair returned to the same store after saying ‘I do’ at a local church in Eastbourne.

The bride and groom, dressed as brides, bought a bag of crisps and their former colleagues gave them a bouquet of red roses.

Jessica said: “It was so funny. I thought I was going to be so embarrassed.”

Waitrose took to social media to wish the couple all the best.

In a Facebook post that garnered nearly 8,000 likes, the supermarket wrote:

Jess says: “We met in September 2017 in the chip aisle. When Jax started, I was asked to train him on how to restock the shelves. We started dating in November, but Jax left in December to work in Cambridge, so we were long distance until I moved to Cambridge in October 2019. And now, here we are in 2024… married!”

‘A huge congratulations to the happy couple!’
