Nearly 150,000 Isuzu vehicles have been recalled due to software problems that can cause their engines to seize up, potentially leading to serious injury or death.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications recalled 149,049 Isuzu D-MAX pickup trucks and MU-X SUVs on Wednesday.
Problems with vehicle software could cause engines to unexpectedly slow or stop, the department warned.
“Due to a software issue, the engine control module (ECM) may incorrectly reduce engine speed. If this occurs, the engine may stall, resulting in a loss of motive power,” it said.
‘Loss of driving power while driving could increase the risk of an accident resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.’
All D-MAX pickups and MU-X SUVs manufactured between 2020 and 2024 require an inspection and will need to have their software updated.
Isuzu will contact affected customers in writing. to make an appointment with your nearest dealer to inspect and resolve the software problem.
Updates will be free.
