Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron after he allegedly tried to stab an Israeli soldier, the Palestinian news agency WAFA said.
The Palestinian was identified by local media as Moammar Arif Refa & e; and 42-year-old al-Atrash from Hebron.
The Palestinian health ministry said that the Israeli army had informed the Office of Coordination of the Palestinian District of the murder, without formally identifying the victim.
Palestinians living in the area reported hearing gunfire and then seeing a Palestinian lying motionless on the ground surrounded by soldiers before being taken away in an Israeli ambulance.
The Israeli army said in a statement that it had killed the Palestinian after he tried to stab an Israeli soldier.
"An assailant tried to stab a soldier adjacent to the Cave of the Patriarchs, wounding him lightly, and the soldier and other forces on the scene responded with real fire," the army statement said.

On 15 October, a Palestinian was gunned down after allegedly stabbing an Israeli soldier in the northern West Bank, while a few days earlier, Aisha Al-Rawbi, a 47-year-old Palestinian mother of eight, was killed after Israeli settlers launched Stones in the car in which he was traveling.
The West Bank was occupied by Israel in the Six Day War of 1967. The Palestinians want the territory as part of their future state.
